- keys and vocals Songtitles: Hard Time Some time ago, on these pages, Gabor reviewed a band with the same name. But, the SEPTEMBER he reviewed came from the US and is a complete different band than is this review. This review is from the Canadian SEPTEMBER and it's funny to establish that both bands opperated round the same period ( end 70's - early 80's), but also that they produced about the same kind of music. The US SEPTEMBER released about 4 lp's, were a Christian band, female fronted and played a mixture of pomp- and poprock. This Canadian SEPTEMBER played the same kind of music, although more towards pure pomprock like BIGHORN, early THRILLS, STONEBOLT, LIFER, early FAIRCHILD, first JAUGERNAUT and SUNBLIND LION. The band contains 3 leadsingers and there are no bad songs on the lp, except for the last one, a honky tonk instrumental with only piano and bas, that happily only lasts 48 seconds. The first 2 songs are both great uptempo pomprocksongs with nice guitars, lots of keys ( piano - synths - Hammond ) and great harmony vocals. O.J 640 and COUNTRY are soft pomp like STARCASTLE and GLIDER did in the mid seventies, but not bad at all. Especially COUNTRY starts with big keys, has a bit jazzy undergound and the birds on the background remind me to BIGHORN and their Sparrow-song. The best song on the album is DREAMER. A very awesome pomprocktune with a great guitar- and Hammond solo. The same goes for A FEW GOOD DAYS with a roaring organ and a great break or HELL MUSIC, their heaviest and most progressive song. What can I write more, this lp is a classy pomprocklp, with the typical end 70's sound, lots of keys, great harmony vocals and good songs. If you're a fan of the above mentioned bands, don't hesitate to look out for it. Rating: 8,5/Review by Willy van Buel |
